Dear Albany Community,
I have had the privilege of serving as Albany’s Superintendent since early December 2024. When I started, I made a commitment to the Board of Education—and to all of you—to spend my first 90 days listening and learning from staff, students, families, and community members. It has been both a joyful and eye-opening experience getting to know so many people across our district. I had the opportunity to connect in person with well over a hundred individuals (students, staff, families, and community), which allowed for meaningful, face-to-face conversations and relationship-building. Because I wanted to hear from many more voices than I could meet with directly, I also launched a survey. Over 1,600 people responded—including more than 1,000 students—sharing thoughtful insights about what’s working well and where we need to grow.
At Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, I shared a summary of this community input and some draft priorities based on this feedback in a slide presentation. This is just the start of the collaborative, community-centered approach I believe in and will continue. I will keep you updated on future opportunities to share your input and on the actions we will be taking based on what we heard from all of you.
Eid Mubarak and Happy Holi
Last Saturday, the Southwest Asian and North African (SWANA) Parent Engagement Group organized a wonderful cultural event at Ocean View Elementary, including a colored chalk celebration marking the arrival of spring (photo above). The events organized by the AUSD Affinity Groups create community and honor cultural traditions and are truly important to our students and families. I thank SWANA for all the hours of work it took to organize this celebration and hope that everyone’s laundry came out white!
Accrediting Albany High School
This week, a committee representing the Accrediting Commission for Schools—Western Association of School and Colleges (WASC) was interviewing students, families, and staff at Albany High School (AHS). In order for colleges and universities to accept AHS diplomas and rely on the grades listed in transcripts, AHS must be periodically accredited. Teachers and administrators have been working all year on preparing the extensive self-evaluation report, in addition to all of their regular duties. The report and the visit are an opportunity to celebrate successes and validate ongoing school improvement through a rigorous and relevant self-evaluation that focuses on equity, inclusion, and access to high-level, rigorous learning opportunities for all students.
AHS was last accredited in 2019, and since then all state accountability indicators have improved. Results from this round of evaluation will be available later this year, and I expect positive results.
Spring Break Is Here
All schools and school offices will be closed next week for spring break, with the exception of the Albany Children’s Center preschool program, which will maintain its regular schedule. I hope that all students and their families can take time to relax, have fun, reconnect and get energized as we approach the final weeks of school.

He tenido el privilegio de servir como Superintendente de Albany desde principios de diciembre de 2024. Eid Mubarak y Feliz Holi
El sábado pasado, el Grupo de Participación de Padres del Suroeste Asiático y Norteafricano (SWANA) organizó un maravilloso evento cultural en la Escuela Primaria Ocean View, que incluyó una celebración con tizas de colores para celebrar la llegada de la primavera (foto arriba). Los eventos organizados por los Grupos de Afinidad del AUSD fomentan la comunidad, honran las tradiciones culturales y son muy importantes para nuestros estudiantes y familias. Agradezco a SWANA por todas las horas de trabajo que dedicaron a organizar esta celebración y espero que la ropa de todos haya quedado blanca.
Acreditación de Albany High School
Esta semana, un comité que representa a la Comisión de Acreditación de Escuelas de la Asociación Occidental de Escuelas y Universidades (WASC) entrevistó a estudiantes, familias y personal de la Escuela Secundaria Albany (AHS). Para que las universidades acepten los diplomas de AHS y se basen en las calificaciones de los expedientes académicos, AHS debe acreditarse periódicamente. El profesorado y el personal administrativo han trabajado durante todo el año en la preparación del exhaustivo informe de autoevaluación, además de sus tareas habituales. El informe y la visita brindan la oportunidad de celebrar los logros y validar la mejora continua de la escuela mediante una autoevaluación rigurosa y relevante que se centra en la equidad, la inclusión y el acceso a oportunidades de aprendizaje rigurosas y de alto nivel para todos los estudiantes.
La última acreditación de AHS fue en 2019, y desde entonces todos los indicadores de rendición de cuentas estatales han mejorado. Los resultados de esta ronda de evaluación estarán disponibles a finales de este año, y espero resultados positivos.
Las vacaciones de primavera ya están aquí
Todas las escuelas y oficinas escolares estarán cerradas la próxima semana por las vacaciones de primavera, con la excepción del programa preescolar del Centro Infantil Albany, que mantendrá su horario habitual. Espero que todos los estudiantes y sus familias puedan tomarse un tiempo para relajarse, divertirse, reconectar y recargar energías al acercarnos a las últimas semanas de clases.

開齋節快樂和灑紅節快樂

奧爾巴尼高中認證
